A Small Success?

I was working with a new student the other day who was trying to write an essay paper. He just couldn't get words on the page--but boy could he talk! That guy could say exactly what he thought, but he couldn't write it down.
I told him to get a recorder of some kind (like an old tape recorder from a thrift store, which is practically free) and record himself talking. Then he could transcribe what he'd said. Voila, a paper!
He loved the idea and was glad to find out that his ability to talk could be a writing strength.
It's a little moment, but it was fun. That's the kind of experience that keeps me tutoring.
